Mathematics is very important to study because it is as a base of all the science. With mathematics the progress of science and technology is happened. So, the people study mathematics from elementary school until university.
In teaching learning process of mathematics the teacher must give the motivation to the students. One of them is explain the goal of study mathematics. The point of view from Arthur W. Combs, study happened if it has a meaning to individual. The teaching learning process will be good if there is a purpose of study. With motivation and aim clearly to study of mathematics, the effort to reach the aim will be big too.
Beside, the teacher must always try to make an enjoy situation to study mathematics and hope the students will give the positive response in teaching learning process so they can understand the concept of mathematics easily.
The student ability to understand the concept of mathematics is different. There is a student can understand very quickly but the other is slow. Their ability to understand of mathematics can not be seen direct.
The teacher must do the evaluation to know the development of students to understanding of mathematics. There is need some method to measure their ability so their development can be shown. And the possible method is kuantitatif methods.
Kuantitatif methods is the data that shown in numeral. For example, the teacher held the exam to know the development of students to understand the lesson of mathematics. The teachers make some question in essay that related to the concept that has been given. With kuantitatif methods, the teachers give mark to the students answer in every number based on their correct answer such as 10 if the students can answer perfectly, 7 if the students just wrong in their last answer, 5 if they can write what have known in question, 3 if they can not answer etc. Then if the correction is finish the teachers to sum the total of mark in every student. Based of that mark the teacher can make a conclusion the student ability to understand the concept is high or low. For example 85-100 is very good, 70-84 is good, 60-70 is enough and others.
Calculation that used in that case is one of the simple application from kuantitatif methods. Kuantitatif methods can be used almost in every problem. This excess can measure something that can not shown direct and can not be done by kualitatif methods.
